J-BusinessDirectory - FORUM: Positioning in Google

Support Forum

After installing the latest versions of the Directory (v. 5.8.3, 5.8.4, 5.8.5 and 5.86) on my website, I have been able to observe that new businesses no longer rank in Google with the same speed as what they they did in previous versions (5.2.x, 5.4.x, 5.7.x).

Previously, one added a new business to the directory, indexed it in Google and in a matter of 2 or 3 days (in some cases hours) the new business had appeared on the first page of SERPs. With the latest versions, that no longer happens. (I have new businesses that I create with the latest versions that appear in position 40, 60 or don't even appear in the first 100 results.)

I think the developers of the directory are interested in hearing about our concerns as customers.

Considering that our revenue generation revolves around new subscriptions and that a key factor in incentivizing new subscriptions is the strong positioning on Google by the directory, I would like to request that you raise your concerns on this issue.

There have not been any changes on the SEO mechanism in the directory extension in the latest versions.
Has your website been the same when updating to all the mentioned versions? What has changed through time?

Nothing has changed.

many of us have the same problem, I hope they solve this problem soon

@Henry - did Joomla version remained the same? Are you still using Joomla 3?

There were some changes on the Joomla 4 changes and we have applied the necessary changes to make sure that the title and meta description are applied.
For the newer versions of JBD you can also try to set the filter as static.

@Elaine - the meta issue has been fixed on 5.8.6 version. Are there any other issues active?

@Henry - we have checked the latest listings that were added on your website and they are shown on the first page in Google search results.
The time for the pages to be indexed and to be shown on search results does not depend on the JBD extension.

Yes, if I search on google for a category with the city where there are many businesses, my website does not appear on any google search page

"...The time for the pages to be indexed and to be shown on search results does not depend on the JBD extension."

hmmm can you explain that bcs that goes against all I have learned about SEO SERP optimisation.. of course JBD have to adapt to how Google index and make SERP results better or worse in comparision to all optimisation parameters that Google use to judge and index pages.

Or what you mean?

George, thanks for responding.

In relation to the queries and observations made by you, it is made known that:

1. The version of Joomla I work with is 4.1.5 and my website works with Joomla before the last update made.

2. The observations to the positioning that I make are for the 5.8.x versions of the Directory. Faced with positioning difficulties, I have to install previous versions such as 5.7.x.

Currently version 5.8.x is generating this great inconvenience. I´m working with JBD versión 5.7.x
I will be attentive to your comments, thanks for the support.

@ssnobben - the time depends on the website frequency indexing and update index frequency.

@Henry - what happened when you installed the 5.8.x version? The current results were showing further down the page or on second pages? This is for all listings or all listings?
Have you using dynamic or static loading?

Google has changed. create an account if you don't have one https://search.google.com/search-console/ and submit your new listings and updated site maps.  Jsitemap Pro works really well with the addons and will help Google find your new listings faster. It will let you create a nice site map linking everything like https://santanvalleybusinessdirectory.com/index.php?option=com_jmap&view=sitemap

I was able to get an AC Company on Google page one on one of my directories after I manually had it crawled "New AC Unit Superior, AZ" you should see me as number 1 or 2 on the Google Search. SuperiorBusinessDirectory.com

Agree about that I guess most people do that kind of combination search too with 2-3 key words. Dont know how you JBD meta optimise that.

I have Jsitemap + these Joomla combination to with also Yannick Gaultier 4SEF & 4SEO that I can recommend.

+ Tassos Google Structured Data that have integration with JBD listings, offers and events too. https://www.tassos.gr/joomla-extensions/google-structured-data-markup

I understand that you need a professional explanation regarding SEO issues where a page is not getting indexed.

It seems like you are facing an issue where your webpage is not being indexed by Google. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Google Search Console (https://search.google.com/search-console/) and log in with your Google account.

  2. Enter your new business URL in the 'URL Inspection' tool.

  3. Click on 'Request Indexing' to ask Google to crawl and index your page.

  4. Wait for a few hours, then return to Google Search Console and enter the same URL into the 'URL Inspection' tool again.

If your webpage shows up this time, it means that the primary issue you're facing is related to your sitemap.xml file or crawl rate and budget settings. The sitemap.xml file provides instructions to search engines about how often to crawl your website and which pages to index.

To fix this issue:

  1. Ensure that your sitemap.xml file is properly formatted and includes all the relevant pages on your website.

  2. Submit your sitemap.xml file to Google Search Console. Go to 'Sitemaps' in the left-hand menu, enter the URL of your sitemap, and click on 'Submit'.

  3. Adjust your crawl rate and budget settings in Google Search Console. Go to 'Settings' > 'Crawl rate', and adjust the settings according to your server preferences.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the indexing issue and improve your website's visibility in Google search results.

It's been years since I've done manual indexing whenever I build anything with JBD, but that's not the problem. On my website I use Jevets for event handling which are always on the first google search page without manual indexing and JBD

I agree that people will search more for {category} or {category in city} and not for the business names.
Ranking for business categories depends also on the competition for those keywords.

To have a better exposure for this we have built the listings map which can be accessed through a menu item.
An example can be seen on http://demo.cmsjunkie.com/j-businessdirectory/directory/j-network/index.php?option=com_jbusinessdirectory&view=listingsmap

For the 5.8 version, we managed to discover a problem related to search results URL and will be fixed shortly.
We have applied other SEO improvements that will be available in the 5.8.7 version.

I google search events in an city. This is JEvents on my website
