J-BusinessDirectory - Problems with SEO of JBusiness Directory: WEAK META TAGS AND PLACEMENT IN SERPs

Support Forum

For those of us who have purchased the J-Business Directory extension, I consider that one of the main strengths offered by the Directory is the powerful positioning it has on the Google results page as well as the display of META TITLE and META DESCRIPTION based on to data recorded in the backend.

In version 5.8.4. and 5.8.5 I have been able to observe that these aspects have been weakened since:

1.- New businesses added to the directory do not rank on the first page of Google (even though the URL is correctly indexed in Search Console). I have a new business that is located in position 30 of Google.

2.- The registered data for METATITLE and METADESCRIPTION is not being displayed on the Google results page.

Ok great you follow up on this very important issue bcs without this working well the directory and its clients will not register and see the valut of it. Pls tell and update us how this going forward.

thks!

I can confirm this was not fixed! I lost about 50% of my entire website's google rankings because I had great positions but then all the titles changed and lost all my positioning.

All my category titles are the same as the parent category. The only exception is if I create a Joomla Menu item and set that to control the title tags and metadata. So now I have hundreds of pages all with the same title when they were all previously different.

i think we have the same problem

Yes hope this will analysed and sorted out...

Thks for reporting!

I confirm you, fifth page of google search

"The best place to hide a cadaver is the second page of Google search"

The tile and the meta description of the pages is being overridden by the menu item title and meta description.
Joomla 4 is forcing a menu item to be associated to the search results and that's why the titles and description were changed.
We have changed this and will be integrated in the 5.8.6 version that will be released the latest tomorrow.

George Thank you for your swift action on this.

I would like to share my feedback on the recent update of the J-business directory Joomla extension. Firstly, I want to acknowledge that I appreciate the effort put into fixing the category title tag issue, which was a significant problem for us. However, I regret to inform you that the new update has caused a new problem.

Specifically, I have noticed that when I select the "Enforce menu item metadata" option and set it to "Yes," the metadata is not being enforced. This is a concerning issue because we rely heavily on the ability to control the Joomla Menu Meta Data, especially for frequently used categories on my topic.

For instance, suppose I create a page for a specific region of a category. In that case, I need to ensure that the metadata matches the region I manually entered in the Joomla Menu, including the relevant keywords. However, after the new update, the metadata only shows the main category's metadata, and the new metadata for the region set in the Menu Item Type is not displayed.

This means that all the regular categories now have the correct titles, but all the manually created pages' titles have changed, causing us to lose all the SEO we had worked hard to create through the Joomla Menu system.

I hope this issue can be resolved soon as we rely heavily on the "Enforce menu item metadata" for our most popular topics. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Best regards,

After reviewing the issue further, I have found new information to add to my previous message. It appears that the "Enforce menu item metadata" setting only works if the "Browser Page Title" field is filled in under the "Page Display" settings. Unlike normal Joomla Menu functionality where the Menu Title is always the PageTitle if "Browser Page Title" is left empty. I apologize for not mentioning this earlier and any confusion this may have caused. I hope this updated information helps to resolve the issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

We will also add support for the default menu title.

Where can I choose the option "Enforce menu item metadata".

Thanks in advance for the collaboration. I would really appreciate if you can attach a screenshot.

@George Bara

I would like to express my gratitude to George Bara for responding promptly to the community and for stating that support for the default Joomla menu title will be added. Thank you for your dedication!

However, I have encountered some additional errors with the recent update, specifically with the search module. I am unsure if I should create a new topic, but I wanted to bring these issues to your attention.

Currently, when selecting categories from the module, the last category is repeated over 200 times, which indicates that there may be an error. Additionally, upon selecting and submitting a search from the category drop-down, the relevant search category and relevant content does not appear.

I want to note that I have two versions of the same module, one in the position dir-search-listing-top that is not working correctly and another in an overlay advanced search position that seems to be functioning correctly without any errors. Both of these modules were working before the update.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to hearing back from the support team soon.

@Henry Antelo

it's in the Joomla Add New Menu then select either Business, Event, or Offer page. Then scroll down to "Enforce menu item metadata"
I would provide screenshots but uploading images don't work on the forum

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of the Directory (5.8.6) and the positioning problems of registered businesses still persist.

I ran a search with SERPROBOT for a new business that I added about three or four weeks ago and its positioning in SERPs is very weak. Depending on the search terms used, it appears in positions like 17, 25, 43, and in some cases it doesn't appear in the first 100 search results.

As someone said above, appearing on the second page of results is synonymous with being dead on Google. And unfortunately our sites fall apart if we can't offer customers a good ranking in Google.

In recent versions this problem did not exist, could you explain to us what happened and how do you plan to solve it?

@Henry Antelo they did address the problem and fixed it but it's going to take some time for Google to readjust the ranking.

It will be as you say but:

before the update

after the update

and it's not a server problem there are only three websites here

check that j-businessdirectory pages have <meta name="robots" content="index, follow">
it wasn't on my website

The only modifications applied were to the menu title and description.
Most of the issues with the page speed are related to your website in general.
One page in Joomla is build by multiple extension.

<meta name="robots" content="index, follow"> has nothing to do with JBD
