On another business site that I work for, we get 10/20 spam messages a day via such online forms (which have captchas). It doesn't concern me because it is our site - but it would concern me a lot if it was coming from a paid service or even a free listing service (i.e. would put me off it).

Would be good to be able to pass messages via a spam filter and then offer client the option to autodelete spam or forward but marked as spam?

Otherwise is just going to make more sense to turn both contact and quote off on all listings. Solves the spam issue.

Or having all contact messages be reviewed by admin before being released to client. One issue with recieving a high amount of spam - even if it is marked as spam - is that I just tend to ignore all of it and don't even bother looking to find valid enquiries.

I dont have any spam and its depend on how you set up your Joomla site, hosting, extra spam prevention plugins and services. You should tweak this and its no problem for you.

 

I dont know how familiar you are with Joomla but doing the basics for this is a must. I have many attacks every day and thats normal life but you can prevent much by installing tweaking htaccess and firewall at least. Check Admin Tools Pro and Akeeba Backup Pro from Nikos and you have a first start if you not already have it. I set up by host and htaccess blocking all russian for example though my site will not have these customers from there. China, Belarus and Turkey too..

Is not only related how you have your other 'SPAM' measurements but also if you use login

 

If you activate: Show details only for login users   User need to login before sending contact form.

 

But JBD isn't that flexible, if there is an option like above, I like to decide which details are shown or not shown.

 

Also the relation between Contact Button and the additional Contact Information option is very annoying.

 

To come back to SPAM prevent: Suggest that in settings have option to set Login required Yes/No for Contact and Request Quote form (not the add-on)

 

In addition, I sometimes get the request to have the option to redirect the contact form direct to their own form, would be nice if can offer as package feature.

One of the best ways to reduce the SPAM is by activating Recaptcha.
