TL;DR: My request is for the search results style based on, listings_list_style_7.php, to be given the same abilty as listings_list_style_6.php has, in not squishing and distorting images. It must be some css difference between how the image thumbnails are displayed (based on the full image). This would go a long way to resolving the various image issues associated with listings_list_style_7.php imo.
If you carefully compare the images on these serach results here (i.e. list view style 7) - with these serach results here (i.e. list view style 6) you will see that the former distorts the images by resizing them and squishing them into a new aspect ratio, whereas the latter somehow just uses the center of each image and regardless of the original image's aspect ratio, fits it perfectly in the available display area.
I feel that the fromer (i.e. list view style 7) is the better looking template - however, after hours of trying to sort the images out, I just can't live with distorted images and so I have reluctantly moved to list view style 6 (although I do like 6 as well, just I don't feel it has quite the same sparkle to it). Where I got to with list view style 7 was restricting the search results images (for each listing) to only the first one uploaded by a company to their gallery (so that the image shown in search results could be more controlled and made just right by a business user). However, the only way to prevent image squishing is to instruct the user to upload a first gallery image with a (completely unconventional) aspect ratio of 1.45 - which would mean that a business user would have to use a graphics editing program to get the image right. And even then, in the response modes, it changes display type. [I am working on PC in respect of this post.]
The problem is however, that I feel this will be beyond most users to work out and looking at this extensive list of aspect ratios, there is not a 1.4* anything in the listing.
Btw, an easier way to see how squished the images are in style 7 is (on a PC/laptop) to take a look at this image here. And then take a look at the same image in the listing here. I feel it is quite easy to see that the round/spherical bubble is not round/spherical in the search listings - as the image is actually quite distorted. In terms of displaying a face in closeup, for example, this is not ideal, display wise :P [Just to prove the point, if you now check the same image in this style 6 search results - you will see that even though the image is a crop, the bubble is round/spherical again - rather than being 'eliptical'.
Would be great if the necessary css updates can be detailed to correct listings_list_style_7.php's display of images please.
I'm going to leave the above post/observation - but have decided to go with listing results style_6 because of the advantage offered with it using the logo image for the thumbnail in serach results listing.
So I don't need a resolution for style 7 anymore :)
style_6 is a very nice template I feel :D A sort of more compact 7.
