J-BusinessDirectory - JBD User Group Settings

Support Forum

I am not clear on the distinction of when the selected UserGroups are assigned in 3 JBD backend settings:

   General Settings/General Settings -

        1) Registration usergroup

        2) Business user group

   Package

        3) Package UserGroup

Is a user assigned to each of the 3 usergroups? It seems #1 and #3 might be the same. Is #2 used only if Packages are not enabled? I have read JBD manual entries regarding each of these.

Hi,

You will find more details about the user group if you hover with the mouse over the field label.
For the package user group, the packages are visible only to selected user groups.

I am familiar with hover help tips on field labels. However the hover tips don't provide any more details than the manual. The circumstances for when the UserGroup is applied to the user wasn't clear so I performed extensive testing. I now seem to understand when the UserGroup(s) are applied when adding a listing and the UserGroup view permission used in Package definitions. I have the following questions and observations:

I find that when #2 UserGroup is applied first then #1 UserGroup will not be applied to a user when adding another listing via Package Subscriptions menu. Why?

If #1 UserGroup is appplied first then #2 UserGroup will be applied when adding another listing other than via Package Subscriptions menu.

Why was this 2 UserGroup feature added to JBD backend General Settings? What is advantage/purpose of having the 2 permission models based on how a user adds their listing? I would like to know how to properly make use of it.

#1) JBD Manual= Registration usergroup: You can determine the usergroup of the users that are going to be registered on the directory registration page. The directory registration page will be shown after a payment plan is selected. In this way, you can have multiple user groups with different access rights.

Hover Help Tip= You can determine the usergroup of the users that are going to be registered, in this way you can assign the desired rights to the users

#2) JBD Manual= Business user group: It sets the usergroup that will be added for theusers that are going to create a new business listing.

Hover Help Tip: You can set the usergroup that will be added for the users that are going to create a new business listing. You can leave it empty for no assignment

I get confused here too and I have not a "3) Package UserGroup" settings in JBD 5.4.1 rc backend admin there.. hmm

My "package" problem is also when I update a user from standard reg member to Premium with more features in that package they not get the extra updated package features for the user so thats a showstopper for releasing the site I building right now. I did that for a user from backend and that user still not get that extra updated features for a Premium package he now belongs too.

So this must be a bug too?

Hope this also get solved very quickly so you can test the payment plgs and that they work ( Stripe + Stripe subscription )

This was confusing to me as well...then I figured it out when packages werent showing up and then I added all users and all packages showed up.

Package user group.....these are the groups you want to see each package in the front end.  Some directory businesses dont want you to see packages until you register.   Others allow even the public to see packages.

Registered user group....this is the group who will not have any control over business listings....but can register and have a dashboard for bookmarks, orders, reviews, etc.  More the consumer who is registered to shop and use special features like purchasing on your site.

Business User group...This is the group who will sign up and create business listings, offers, etc.

Package...who can see and click on packages.
Registered...Front end consumers allowed special features.
Business...Merchants who actually create business listings and offers for registered users to shop.

I am using v5.3.6 This can be found in the Package Details section of a Package created in JBD backend Packages. It doesn't set a UserGroup to a user. Instead it allows users in the selected UserGroup(s) to see that Package on the frontend.

When you say the user is a "standard reg member" do you mean they haven't created any business listing yet or are you upgrading their subscription? Subscription upgrades should work if you upgrade a business listing on the backend the user should see the upgraded features on their frontend control panel. No issue on my install. It would be unfortunate if JBD 5.4.1 RC has those critical issues.

In v5.3.6 Business user group - I am finding business listing users are assigned to this UserGroup when they DO NOT  use the Package Subcription method to create a business listing.

Brian you did not include the Registration usergroup that is in JBD backend General Settings/General Settings just above the Business user group . This UserGroup is assigned to users who do use the Package Subcription method to create a business listing.

I am wondering why these two are both offered for assigning 2 different UserGroups under different circumstances. Further, as I mentioned in my previous post, if Business UserGroup is applied first then Registration UserGroup will not be applied to a user when adding another listing via Package Subscriptions menu. However if Registration UserGroup is appplied first then Business UserGroup will be applied when adding another listing other than via Package Subscriptions menu.  Although I now understand the implimentation structure now, I don't understand the reason for this arrangement.

Related to user permission, is ACL now advised or not, as status check will not advise....

Front ACL not active   will be green is not active

I have one reg group standard reg member and then a premium group with more features than std reg member group. I can update the user from standard to premium b u t the new extra features for the premium membership doesnt get the extra upgraded features - thats the problem.

He still have the same features as before ie the standard membership features were he should have been upgraded with new premium futures too. I dont know I did a manual update from backend and that premium is a paid package too if that have something to do with it and I did the upgrade backend manually.

Robert Bal - Even though your question is related to UserGroups it is another topic - "Frontend ACL"

I am still working a lot of the functionality of this component out myself. That being said here is what I understand regarding Frontend ACL.

You can choose to set Frontend ACL to Yes or No in General Settings depending on how you want JBD to behave on the Frontend with users assigned to various UserGroups.

If you choose No in Frontend ACL you get green status because you don't have to worry about setting UserGroup permissions.

If you choose Yes you will need to configure your UserGroup permissions to get green status otherwise it will be red status. UserGroup permissions are set using the Options button in the JBD component upper right corner.

ssnobben - Your situation is puzzling. I am not having this problem. I don't know if it is as a result of the version you are using. Have you adjusted permissions? Can you create a new user then have that user create a new Premium listing. Does the new user see all the Premium features? If that new user can see all the Premium features check the UserGroup the new user is assigned to. Then check the UserGroup the other user that you are trying to upgrade to Premium is assigned to.

It is difficult to work it out without seeing the setup. Good luck!
