J-BusinessDirectory - Trouble with maps

Support Forum

Hi there. Please explain map fields. For instance your address formats indicate a Province field yet there is no province in the Address autocomplete configuration. Is the address autocomplete that box where you start typing the google address and it fills in?

I tried to get google maps to work but it must not like my api. So I'm trying openstreetmap but the map defaults to Egypt. I created an openstreetmap account but I don't see where there is any place to input an openstretmap api.

In North America our format is house number, street number, street name, town/city, provice/state, country, postal code.  How would the fields look for this format?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank yoiu

Susan,

- Map Format: OpenStreet Maps does NOT have an API as it is free; NO registration is necessary for it to work on JBD. You just need to switch from Google to OpenStreetMap in the General Settings.

- Address Format: Go here to change the address format: General Settings > Front End > Address format. However, please note, currently, JBD has a bug that erases the your own "Custom Address" format and changes it back to the JBD default. When entering a custom format, you must add spaces and commas where appropriate; so, it looks right in the front end.

- Map Default Location: Go here to change the map's default location: General Settings > Front End > Latitude & Longitude

- Google Map Autocomplete: I think, but not sure, that Autocompletes works well in some countries, but not others. For example, in my country, autocomplete is more likely wrong than right. This is not a bug with JBD but with the Google database and the fact that my country is backward. I wish there was a way to turn it off. In fact, it is not needed as a business only needs to enter their address once in their lifetime.

- Google API: I believe JBD does not like restricted Google Maps API. Try an API that is not restricted

- Clear Caches: Make sure you clear your caches after each change: Joomla default cache, hosting cache, browser cache, router cache, etc. However, I am sure you know this already.

Susan did it work for you with Joe instructions?

Cheers!
