At stated above, example i want to create a menu in the front end for one category only let say "Hotels" and the business listing appearing should be hotels only.  How we do this?

Hi,

To add a link to a specific category you have to create a menu item of external url type and copy the link from browser to a specific category.

We will change this in the future to be more user-friendly.

Hi George,

Is this coming in the next iteration, or roadmapped for future development? I'm asking because I am using iJoomla Ad Agency to sell advertising on the site as well. I'm allowing advertisers to target their ads at specific categories in the business directory. The set-up is a bit non-trivial, because I must do as you instructed (create an external menu link fo reach sub-category), and then create an ad zone for each menu item and then place the specific  ad zones on those pages. I'd prefer to wait until there will be a url for each main category (of which I have 12), as opposed to each sub-category (of which I have around 36 currently - I'm sure to add more of these later). Do I have the correct understanding your explanition is to be for the upcoming version?

I thought I'd see the new update this week, based on information in another post. Any ideas when we'll actually see it?

Not trying to be a PITA, but the owner would like to launch the site and begin marketing it.

Thanks,
Will

Hi,

The enhancement that I would like to add is to select the category from menu item. You will still have to create a menu item for each category and link your add modules with this menu items.

Another solution will be to pass a parameter to Joomla Ads module to display only ads related to current category.

Thanks George,

Joomla Ad Agency has a contingency for that by using keywords. I can set certain keywords on a page, and set the parameter for an ad to show only using those keywords. One of the problems with that, is the only keyword that appears on a company page is 'J-Business-Directory'. I'm not seeing the keywords that have been entered in the company listing anywhere in the generated HTML. Therefore this is not an ideal way to address this situation.

I'm ok with setting up a menu for the main services categories, and using those to create ad zones. It's much more structured than going the keyword route and will be easier to keep track of as the directory and advertising mature.

I'm just hesitant to make too many changes or set up the remainder of the directory until the new update is released. Combining the directory with the advertising is non-trivial, and I have B/C concerns. Especially since I've already done a lot of customization to the CSS. I'm using a custom CSS file (as it's a RT-Gantry template), so as long as the class names remain the same I should be OK. Without knowing what the remaining changes have in store, I'm tenative to push forward.

Thanks,
Will
