J-BusinessDirectory - cannot update manually upload and online update

When I try to manually update the JBusiness Directory I get an error

Warning

Copy file failed
Error

Error installing component

When I try to update it from the component it gives me the same copy file failed.
And it also tells my subscription has expired
But below it does tell me My subscription is active
Your Current Version : 4.2.1
Expiry Date: 2015-09-30
Your updates plan is active
I know its active cause this is the first time I am installing it.

This is a huge dissappointment. I really just trusted you guy from your reviews and sat back and relaxed and Now I am in a soup. I thought I could easily install this and get it running within a few days.

Also the quickstart download in my download sections tells me its from March. It does not even tell which version is in the quickstart. As I see from the old quickstart I have There is no way to know the version of Jbusiness directory in it easily(at least). If there was  version I could have just downloaded the quickstart and started from a scratch as I have just installed the old quickstart.

P.S. atleast in the documentation you should have mentioned that the first thing we need to do is add the purchase details.
I wasted half an hour when the update failed(throught he joomla update) searching the forums for any other customer who is facing the same problem. It was only when I tried to do something differently by trying to update from inside the component I found this out

Hi,

The issue that you are facing is not caused by our extension, it caused by a misconfiguration in write permission on your server.

Please grant write permission to directory folders and tmp folder.
This will fix the issue.

The actual quickstart on our store contains the J-BusinessDirectory version 4.2.3 and the user manual has the version on the first page and also in the file name.

First off I am not facing this problem with any other joomla installation on my server which is xampp
The problem lies with your quickstart. I installed your quickstart. So I guess you have to correct the permission in your quickstart.

Second why does it tell me my subscription has expired when I tried to update

I took a break from writing this comment to Install Joomla 3.3 update it and then install your standalone extension and it worked. So its not a problme with my server or my write permissions It is a problem with your quickstart. Correct the write permission for the tmp folder in the quickstart that you offer for download

Hi,

Write permission are not related with our quickstart or extension.
There permissions are established by your operation system.

On windows when you unzip the quickstart, on some cases, the files become read only. Please go to the quickstart folder or joomla installation folder, right click on the of folder, click properties and check if the read only check box is checked. If it's checked please uncheck and apply changes to all sub-folders and files. This should fix your issue.

Ok If you say so. But I have never faced such a problem in years. I have used quickstart for templates from Joomlaart, Rockettheme and Gavik Never ever faced such a problem on xaampp. (since joomla 1.5 till the 3.3 when I last used a quickstart)
BTW I installed the new quickstart. I just realized the date there is the date when I got the subscription.

Hi,

Is everything OK now?
Are your referring to creation date of zip archive?

I downloaded the latest version of the quickstart and everything was fine. I have now uploaded it to hostgator server.
Now when I am trying to update I am getting the same error.
Warning

Copy file failed
Message

You support & updates plan has expired. Please renew.

I have changed my tmp directory permission to 0777

So now I feel that you guys just BSed me about folder permission your quickstart is full of bugs and I am wasting precious time here. This is unacceptable

Hi,

The quickstart is working fine for most of our customers, so there is not problem with the quicsktart.

As the error suggest the issue that you have is with your server settings. Copy failed means that Joomla cannot copy files on your server.

There are 2 reasons for this error.

#1 There is no write permission on the files

#2 There is an upload limitation on your server.

A key aspect that is important and might cause issues during J-BusinessDirectory component installation is that the actual installer package is usually over 2M and there are two PHP settings that could cause the normal installation process to fail. These parameters are: the ‘upload_max_filesize’ php parameter which (unfortunately) is restricted by many hosting environments to just ‘2MB’ and the ‘post_max_size’ parameter. Both of these parameters must be set to at least 16MB.

Please check also the chapter about update from our online documentation http://www.cmsjunkie.com/docs/jbusinessdirectory/install.html#update-the-extension

JFYI I could not wait for your reply as it would get too late. I installed Akeeba Admin Tools. And clicked on "fix Permissions" Now the update works
You have to recreate your quickstart from a scratch or maybe install Akeeba Admin tools fix permissions in your quickstart( then uninstall it if you want)
Right now the permission of tmp folder are at 755 only and the update works perfectly.

Like I said before I have never faced such problems with my local server and never on hostgator where I have been installing Joomla Quickstarts for 10 years now.
There is a configuration error in the PHP which defines the tmp path. Akeeba Admin tools fixed that.

So I am closing this ticket but please do the needful so that other customers won't be pulling their hairs out

Hi,

Thank you for letting us know.

The file permission are set when you copy the product. There are no write permission associated with the files in the archive. They are associated with the user that you use when you perform the copy.
The paths are generated on quickstart installation. They are not coming with the quickstart. If you install the quickstart on a server and then you move the installation you have to change the paths.

Jairaj Sanand,

I found the same problem and solved with your information ... Thanks
