J-BusinessDirectory - Listing style override and url translator plugin

Support Forum

Hello guys I am not getting answers from cmsjunkie support and tickets I created for 6 days now ( TOE-18826 and TRV-21019 ) and can anyone help me clarify how should I configure Url translator as wording in it is confusing, or should I leave those fields empty?

My seccond question is can I override listing styles in order to avoid overwrite on update? I have tried to copy style php file located in components/com_jbusinessdirectory/include folder to my html folder but it is not working.

I am new to this component and any advice is appreciated.

Thank you!

URL Translator:

   - I have been asking CMS how to set up the URL Translator plugin for about a year now.

   - I suspect that there is a technical/bug issue associated with its implementation?

   - If so, I wish CMS would make the necessary changes to fix or eliminate the plugin.

   - I'd rather it negatively affect our website in the short term in order to improve it for the long term.

   - Yes, we will complain, but it would a least be fixed for the better.

   - On my last ticket, I asked CMS to add the number on the left to the spaces on the right; but, I did not receive a reply, as well:

   - According to the documentation, it is supposed to change our website URL links which would impact our SEO?

   - I hope we get a good solution for this issue sooner rather than later.

   - On our JBD Dashboard, the issue is registering as a Warning!

The URL Translator plugin is used for the SEO mechanism.
It translates the URLs to the correct pages.
The menu items in the plugin are the ones that should be associated with the item or list view when they are being open from the home.
This overrides the menu item id that is set in the general settings to offer a better control.

E.g. If you open an offer from the home page, the selected menu item is still the home page.
If the home page has some special configuration it will not show OK.
That's why you need to set a menu item id that will be associated with the list view or single items, to have another menu item set different than the home page.

George,

Can you please look at the following image and tell us which menu items go where on the URL translator plugin:

Also, I think a recent ticket I opened indicated that CMS will remove the translator pluggin?

   - "I think we will remove those options since they are not needed anymore."

Ticket No. [YOE-83640] URL Translator Plugin

George,

Can you help us get the JBD Translator Plugin setup?

What specific menu items get added to the Translator Plugin:

Also, is CMS doing away with the Translator Plugin: [YOE-83640]

-"I think we will remove those options since they are not needed anymore."

The pairing in my opinion is pretty obvious.

With all due respect George it is not ,,obvious,, , wording you have used used is not proper, and it is confusing. Any english speaking person would be confused. Wording used in plugin itself is wrong.

In documentation you have 2 sentenses explaining what is this plugin also, what is the point of having to insert single offer/listing menu item ID if I have for example 200 listings, is it not logical then to have 200 url plugins in order to get nice url-s and seo benefit.

This is the answer I got from ticket:

For the URL Translator it is recommended to enter the listing, event and offer items.
In case you open the items from the home page there is no menu items associated and it might cause some issues if home page has different setup compared to other pages.
You can create a hidden menu item for each of the items specified and set it on the plugin.

But if registered user is allowed to add business/listing etc. by this logic and I mean on plugin itself I would have to add new hidden menu items all the time?

Correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you!

"In documentation you have 2 sentenses explaining what is this plugin " yes true this could be improved and explained much better so people understand how to use it and what to do to make it work as expected.

I believe I have the same question as CyrusXxX according to the following Instructions:

I fully understand how to add the following Item Ids:

  •    3
  •    16
  •    9

However, I do not fully understand how to add the following Item Ids:

  •    5
  •    15
  •    8

I do not understand as the above Menu Items are for a SPECIFIC (1) Business (2) Event, or (3) Offer.

Therefore, do I pick any random (1) Business (2) Event, and (3) Offer and enter its ID in the Translator Plugin?

As CyrusXxX points out, do we add a hidden menu item for my 2,000 (1) Businesses (2) Events, and (3) Offers?

George,

Can we have your follow up on this unresolved issue?

Yes would be good if the documentation could clear this out and be more specific who to set up this properly. Give some examples and show how it work..

We are working on a new version for the user manual for some time now and it should be available shortly.
The menu items ids in the URL Translator plugin are not mandatory.
The one that is mandatory is the Menu item id in the general settings -> SEO tab.

The pairing in my opinion is pretty obvious.

Ok but what do you do if you have a multilanguage site??

This work well I guess if you have only English but if you have a multilanguage site how do you set up this then?

The main idea is to have a menu item different than the home page. In some cases, the main menu on the home page is different than the rest of the website.
