i'm trying to find a way to handle businesses that only have an online presence, and no physical location.  Is there a way to handle that, so that the business does not have to display an address at all?

If I understand correctly, then you want to hide the address in the directory for the company. Maybe you should go into the settings - attributes and make the address field optional or hide it in the template (override), the second option is probably more real to hide the address

I'll make the address fields optional, which solves the problem.  I don't know how to hide the address in a template.  What made me ask is that in the Facebook page for my business, the settings allow me to uncheck a box, and say that my business does not have an address, and another that says my customers don't visit me at the address, which hides address fields.

What template are you using ?! List style and company style ?!

You can make the attribute "Show address: yes / no".
Then overriding to edit the template. In places where the address is displayed, wrap with the condition, if YES is selected, then display; if not, do not display.

But it does require a little PHP skills.

I have no php skills, so chose the easiest way:

1. made the address fields optional

2. updated the language file to tell users that if they don't have a physical place of business, just leave them blank.

Seems like that will work fine for what I need.  We only want to collect the minimum amount of information needed to put up a listing.

FWIW - I also modified the language field to remove the word must when telling people how to fill out a field.  Put in an explanation of what the field does and why they would want to fill it out instead of making it sound like they have to do something.
